Focus of the department
The institute is focused on multidisciplinary issues of electronics, power electronics, regulated electric drives, electrical machines and devices. It is a field combining circuit "weak current", cybernetics, electromagnetism and "power current". Electric drives, machines and apparatus, in the modern sense, together with power electronics, are no longer classical, purely power-current disciplines. In view of the current trend in industry, therefore, we also emphasize the programming of digital signal processors (focusing on drives), classical circuit electronics (analog and digital) and their organic connection to electrical machine theory and control.
The Department of Power Electrical and Electronic Engineering provides teaching in the Bachelor's degree programme "Power Electrical and Electronic Engineering" jointly with the Department of Electrical Engineering. Separately, it offers students the Master's degree programme "Power Electrical Engineering and Power Electronics", which is more specialised in the field of electrical drives, machines, instruments, power and control electronics. For the best students, there is also a doctoral programme, where they focus on a narrowly chosen topic for their dissertation under the guidance of supervisors from our institute. The topics are developed either within the framework of the institute's research activities or in cooperation with industrial companies.
