It is often required to solder in places where electricity supply is not available or having a cable attached to the soldering iron is not practical. Gas-heated soldering irons are commonly available on the market, but they cannot be quickly controlled, have a long heating time, a relatively low power and refilling is inconvenient. Battery-powered soldering irons have recently become available, but they face similar problems as gas-heated irons (long heating time, low power, slow or impossible control). This article presents a Li-Ion battery-powered soldering gun, which can provide power in excess of 70 W, working time of over 1 hour and all the advantages of soldering guns – especially very fast heating and cooling time, which eliminates solder overheating for one-hand soldering.
